Course
The Marathon will be run over an
almost flat course, reducing considerably traffic and marshalling problems. The starting point will be from Petra tou Romiou (Legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, Goddess of love and beauty) finishing with a long section of road on the
Pafos seafront at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort
square. The course is clearly marked at every kilometer and water / sponge stations energy drinks are manned at regular intervals (every three kilometers).
The Marathon runners will be transferred by
buses (free of charge) on Sunday
10th March at 6:30 am from the
Pafos Mediaeval Fort Square to Petra tou Romiou. The Greek
name, Petra tou Romiou "The Rock of the Greek"
is associated with the legendary frontier-guard of
Byzantine times Digenis Akritas, who kept the marauding Saracens
at bay with amazing strength. It is said that he heaved this large rock
into the sea destroying the enemy's ship.
The Cyprus Half Marathon & 10 km races will be an out and back course starting and finishing at the
Pafos Mediaeval Fort Square nearby the
Pafos fishing harbour. Once again on flat asphalt surfaced road of the
final part of the Marathon course.
Groups of volunteer marshals will assist in guiding runners throughout the course. The
Pafos Police will also keep a watchful eye on runners, thereby, ensuring their safety. Effective traffic control/management is assured.
